Army Corps to assist Snohomish County with temporary berm at SR530 Slide
Employees with contractor Penny Lee, based out of Arlington, operate a dump truck and a D-5 bulldozer to push, smooth and compact material in 18 inches of water where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, is assisting Snohomish County with construction of a temporary berm to reduce flood impacts and prevent near-term flooding of SR 530 near mile post 37 at C Post Road. Searchers have ongoing and planned recovery activities in this area after a March 22 mudslide constricted flow of the Stillaguamish River and caused flooding upstream. Construction began today and the initial pass will be to match the water surface elevation with rock and embankment material and try to connect to high ground with the intention of raising it to elevation of SR530 at the berm’s completion in a week or so.
