Chittenden Locks help juvenile salmon on journey to Puget Sound
One of three teams nets a balloon-tagged coho after a trip over the prototype smolt slide at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ 100-year-old Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. The salmon are part of the prototype’s survivability and injury testing. Once captured the salmon were inspected for injury and then transferred to 600 gallon pools and held for 48 hours to look for delayed effects.
