Tainter gate removal at Locks is underway
Redside Construction is removing a tainter gate at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard, Wash., this week. A tainter gate is a type of radial arm floodgate used in dams and canal locks to control water flow, named for Wisconsin structural engineer Jeremiah Burnham Tainter.
