  • USACE announces faster drawdown of Lake Washington lake levels

    Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ officials have announced Lake Washington elevation reductions in preparation for the Suquamish Tribal fishing season and Corps Emergency Scour Repair project that begins September 13 and 15, respectively. The drawdown has begun and the projected lake level should reach 20.25 ft. by September 12.

    SEATTLE – For the second consecutive year, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials will raise lakes Washington and Union earlier than typical to the target summer 22-foot elevation due to lower than normal inflows.

    Hiram M. Chittenden Locks large and small chambers are closing to marine traffic from 10:00 p.m. Feb. 13 to 6:00 a.m. Feb. 14 for electrical work.
  • Chittenden Locks large chamber closing to marine traffic one additional morning for dive work

    The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks large chamber will close to marine traffic one additional morning from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, to complete dive work related to pump plant construction. The small chamber lock is not affected and will be operating normally. Pedestrian traffic is not affected.

    The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks large chamber will close to marine traffic from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, to complete dive work related to pump plant construction. The small chamber lock is not affected and will be operating normally. Pedestrian traffic is not affected.

    The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks large chamber will close to marine traffic from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, for dive work related to pump plant construction. Work is rescheduled from the original time and date of 8:00 to 11:00 Wednesday, Dec. 9. The small chamber lock is not affected and will be operating normally. Pedestrian traffic is not affected.
  • Chittenden Locks large chamber closing to marine traffic for dive work

    Chittenden Locks large chamber will close to marine traffic from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, for dive work related to pump plant construction. If all work is not completed during this period, the lock chamber may also be closed 8:00 to 11:00 the following day, Thursday, Dec. 10.
  • Chittenden Locks large chamber opens early to vessel traffic

    Chittenden Locks large chamber is now scheduled to open 5 days early at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov 27.
  • Large lock closure at noon for about 2 hours Oct. 29

    The Hiram M. Chiitenden Locks in Ballard will shut down the large lock at about noon today for divers to dislodge something from Service Gate 3. Currently an unknown item is stuck in the sill of Gate 3 causing leakage. Divers will locate the item and attempt to remove it. Shutdown is expected to last two hours or less, but with an unknown item it could be longer.
  • Chittenden Locks large chamber closes to vessel traffic Nov. 10 to Dec. 2

    The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks large chamber will close to marine traffic from 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2. Crews will conduct maintenance and safety inspections during the large chamber pump out and closure. Foot traffic may occasionally be diverted or delayed for crane operations, but pedestrians will always be able to cross. The small lock will continue round-the-clock operations, accommodating vessels less than 115 feet in length and 26 feet in width.
