  • Unsafe toxin detected in algae blooms on Rufus Woods Lake

    An unsafe level of a naturally occurring toxin was detected in algae blooms at Rufus Woods Lake, prompting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ officials to post Washington State Department of Health warnings against swimming, water skiing and other in-water activities at the lake near Bridgeport, Washington.
  • Chittenden Locks large chamber now open for vessel traffic

    The large lock at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard is now open to all marine traffic following repair of an unexpected hydraulics problem. Mechanics fixed a broken bolt and failed O ring, tested the hydraulic system and put the large lock back in service at 1 p.m. today.
  • Chittenden Locks large chamber closed August 24

    The large lock at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard is closed to all marine traffic today due to an unexpected hydraulics problem. Mechanics are working on the problem, but don’t yet have an estimated time when the large lock can be put back in service. The small lock will be available for vessels throughout the large lock closure. Mariners will be notified when the large lock returns to service.
  • Army Corps testing Moses Lake wells for contaminants

    SEATTLE – As part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s long-term effort to clean contaminated groundwater and soil at the Moses Lake Wellfield Superfund site, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ officials are planning to test groundwater samples at private drinking water wells this August.
  • Corps officials hosting Fish Passage Facility Industry Day Aug 17

    SEATTLE – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, officials are hosting an Industry Day August 17, 2017, to provide more information on an upcoming requirement for a large civil works project at Mud Mountain Dam to construct a new barrier structure, fish passage facility, associated site work and appurtenances.
