Overview

The project will include construction of an 800-foot side channel providing refuge habitat for primarily chinook and for chum in high-flow and low-flow conditions at Riverview Park, which is located along the Green River in Kent, Wash.  The $243,290 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act contract awarded to Tetra Tech Oct. 26., 2009; funds the design phase of the project.  The City of Kent is the local sponsor for the project.

"The project creates a new side channel for salmon rearing and refuge, an important step towards restoring salmon habitat in our watershed," said Suzette Cooke, mayor of Kent. "The City of Kent is pleased to partner with the Corps, and is grateful for the grant award the Corps received for design. We look forward to successful completion of the project, and continued partnership as we rebuild the Green River levees."

Construction is currently underway and will be completed in late Summer 2012.
