SEATTLE DISTRICT CLOSURE INFORMATION

In accordance with public health guidance, the Seattle District closed visitor centers and other gathering spots to support efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is committed to doing its part to help keep our city and region healthy and combat the further spread of COVID-19.

Hiram M. Chittenden Locks

The Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden, the pedestrian bridge and restrooms are open to visitors. The fish ladder viewing area and historical administration building are closed until further notice.

Gate hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Visitors Center hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Chief Joseph Dam

The visitor center is closed for the season and tours remain suspended.

Mud Mountain Dam

The park is open. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The picnic shelters, playgrounds and restrooms are also open.

Albeni Falls Dam

All public tours of the dam are suspended until further notice. Interpretive Programs can be scheduled by calling 208-437-3133 ext. 224.

Libby Dam

As of July 2021, there are still some closures due to COVID including the Visitor Center and the Tour program.  Meanwhile, Visitor Center Staff are out and about to assist visitors with questions and sales in the temporary outdoor bookstore area.  Information, maps and brochures may be found outside the visitor center as well.  Please call the Libby Dam Visitor Center at 406-293-5577 for a recording with more information.  Campgrounds and Day-use areas are open.

SEATTLE DISTRICT CORONAVIRUS NEWS RELEASES

  • Chittenden Locks officials announce lift to some COVID-19 restrictions

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials will begin its next phases of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks reopening plan which include setting dates for the first floor of the visitors center to open on April 23 and access to the pedestrian bridges beginning April 28. The public restrooms will remain closed until May 3.
  • Chittenden Locks announce garden reopening

    The Hiram M. Chittenden (Ballard) Locks will reopen the Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden to visitors, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. Facilities, including the visitors center, and access across the locks’ bridges will remain closed until further notice.
  • Army Corps opening Libby Dam Campgrounds

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) officials at Libby Dam will open Blackwell Flats and Dunn Creek Flats Campgrounds Friday afternoon, May 22, 2020, in time for Memorial Day weekend. While the campgrounds, boat ramps and day-use areas are open, the Libby Dam Visitor Center and Dam Tours will remain closed until further notice. Special Events have been cancelled or rescheduled for the fall. Picnic Shelters also remain closed, with no reservations available for now. Individual picnic tables are still available.
  • Army Corps delays Albeni Falls Dam recreation season

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) officials at Albeni Falls Dam have delayed its recreation season. Subject to state and federal changes in guidance the Corps is now tentatively scheduled to open Albeni Falls Dam recreation areas on June 19. The delay provides greater flexibility to contractors and protects against further spread of the coronavirus.
  • Hiram M. Chittenden Locks closing pedestrian gates to all visitors

    Due to the changing environment in regards to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and aligning with other local government agencies, the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks will be closing all the pedestrian gates to visitors and commuters effective March 17 at 9:00 p.m. This includes the north gate near Northwest 54th street and the south gate near West Commodore Way.

    Chief Joseph Dam is closing its visitor center to the public effective March 14 through April 13, following the lead of Federal and state health and government officials as a measure to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus in our community.
