From Construction to Conservation: One Family’s Legacy of Service at Libby Dam
Photo of “Papa Whitmarsh,” maternal grandfather to Tana Wilson, natural resource manager at Libby Dam, Montana, one of six operating projects owned and managed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District. Primarily an equipment operator for Kiewit and Sons Construction, Papa Whitmarsh worked on the railroad tunnel and Highway 37 before joining the Libby Dam Builders. Libby Dam’s construction involved employing over 2,000 workers at its peak, as well as the construction of three new schools, additions to existing schools and the Libby Airport.
