Chittenden Locks large chamber closed Nov. 13-30

Published Nov. 20, 2014

The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks large chamber is closed to all marine traffic for annual maintenance from 9 a.m., Nov. 13 to 4 p.m., Nov. 30, 2014.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials originally planned to close Nov. 8, but shifted the closure and will delay some planned gate maintenance until next year. The small lock will continue operations and accommodates vessels less than 115 feet in length and 26 feet in width. The scheduled repairs to the large lock are part of an annual general maintenance program.

More than 50,000 vessels safely transit the Locks each year between Lake Washington and Salmon Bay in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.
