SEATTLE – The 24th Annual Free Summer Concerts and Events series at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard kicks off with the Seattle Civic Band 7 p.m., May 30.
Between June 1 and Sept. 2, visitors can enjoy the free concerts beginning at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday while admiring the beautiful Carl S. English Botanical Gardens, the only U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-run botanical garden. Special performances are also scheduled for June 13, Independence Day and Labor Day.
On Father’s Day enjoy a classic car show and a pre-1950s car show Aug. 17, both beginning at 10 a.m. The Greater Seattle Fuchsia Society will hold their annual show at the Locks 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 27 and 28. Don’t forget to also visit one of the nation’s first fish ladders, with sockeye migration season starting mid-June, Chinook in July and coho in August.
All concerts and events are open to the public. Limited concert seating is available on a first-come basis, but blankets or lawn chairs are welcome with plenty of space on the grounds. The first weekend concerts include the Boeing Employees Concert Band June 1 and Cascadia Jazz Band June 2.
