Chittenden Locks free concerts, events begin May 31

SEATTLE – The 26th Annual Free Summer Concerts and Events series at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard kicks off with the Boeing Employees Concert Band 2 p.m., May 31.

Between May 31 and Sept. 6, visitors can enjoy the free concerts beginning at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday while admiring the beautiful Carl S. English Botanical Gardens, the only U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-run botanical garden. A special performance is also scheduled for Labor Day, September 7.

On Father’s Day, June 21, enjoy a classic car show and a pre-1950s car show Aug. 16, both beginning at 10 a.m. The Greater Seattle Fuchsia Society will hold their annual show at the Locks 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 25. Don’t forget to also visit one of the nation’s first fish ladders, with sockeye migration season starting mid-June, Chinook in July and coho in August.

All concerts and events are open to the public. Limited concert seating is available on a first-come basis, but blankets or lawn chairs are welcome with plenty of space on the grounds. Following the May 31 concern, the first full weekend of concerts include the Highline Community Symphonic Band, June 6 and Cascadia Big Band June 7.
