Libby, Montana -- A project to improve Libby Dam’s crane equipment, to lift and move materials at its entry or intake point, begins the week of April 7.
The intake crane replacement project, one of several in progress at Libby Dam, is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ continued efforts to enhance overall efficiency, reliability and performance of the operating project’s infrastructure.
The $13.6 million replacement project, which features an additional 30% loading capacity, is designed to be aesthetically similar to the original crane, to reflect the architectural influence of Paul Thiry (1904-1993), who consulted for the project.
Construction is expected to be completed July 22, 2025.
The replacement project will not affect normal operations or disrupt power service to the public.
