Chittenden Locks Commemorate Replacing Large Lock Center Gate with The Great Miter Retire 5K Fun Run Oct. 7

Army Corps will host The Great Miter Retire 5K Fun Run, Oct. 7, 2023, to launch the large lock center miter gate replacement project at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. The community will get the opportunity to walk along these original 106-year-old engineering marvels one last time during the event that starts and ends at the miter gates.

Chittenden Locks updates large locks extended closure schedule

Chittenden Locks large lock will be closed to all vessel traffic during specific periods in 2023 and 2024 to facilitate demolition, concrete construction, and installation and commissioning of the new miter gates. The small lock will remain open during these periods. Closure dates may change as the project schedule is finalized.

Annual maintenance and additional gate work on large lock at Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, in Ballard, Washington, will close to all marine traffic from 6 a.m. Nov. 8, 2022 to 8 p.m. Nov. 23, 2022.

USACE announces faster drawdown of Lake Washington lake levels

Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ officials have announced Lake Washington elevation reductions in preparation for the Suquamish Tribal fishing season and Corps Emergency Scour Repair project that begins September 13 and 15, respectively. The drawdown has begun and the projected lake level should reach 20.25 ft. by September 12.
