Army Corps of Engineers assisting with local flood fight efforts

The Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) emergency operations center is activated to respond to the atmospheric river and heavy rain currently impacting the region. Several rivers are expected to rise into moderate flood stage and record flood stage with the most significant impacts predicted to occur in the Chehalis River Basin, according to the National Weather Service.

Flood fighters from the Seattle District continue working in the Town of Lyman to extend the length of a buried rock trench to reinforce the upstream channel bank along the Skagit River. The Snohomish Flood Team has deployed to Snohomish County to begin providing emergency measures at Ebey Slough Levee.

The activation is in response to National Weather Service predictions for western Washington rivers, which may crest this weekend above flood stage.

Army Corps’ Okanogan River basin flood team begins levee work in Riverside, Washington

The Okanogan River basin flood team from the Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, began work May 25 to assist Okanogan County in closing a section on the left bank of the breached Riverside levee. The Clark Fork team is continuing work on the Turah Levee in Missoula County, Montana, and both teams and the Pend Oreille team are monitoring levees and providing technical assistance to local communities as rivers remain above flood stage.
