  • Army Corps dredging Everett Harbor, Snohomish River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with local sponsor Port of Everett, will begin maintenance dredging of the upper and lower channel of Everett Harbor and Snohomish River October 16.

  • Chittenden Locks large chamber closing up to 53 days October 12

    The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks large chamber will close to all vessel traffic 6:30 a.m. October 12, for the first of four scheduled extended closures to begin replacing the chamber’s filling culvert valves.

  • Contract awarded to rebuild seawall at West Seattle’s Emma Schmitz Overlook

    The Seattle District awarded a $3 million contract September 27 to Redside Construction based in Bainbridge Island, Washington, to replace an existing seawall in West Seattle. The project will replace the existing 500-foot-long seawall at Emma Schmitz Memorial Overlook, that has experienced significant erosion and damage from storms.

  • Skokomish River Ecosystem Restoration Project Partnership Agreement signed today

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Skokomish Indian Tribe, Mason County and the Washington Department of Natural Resources met a major milestone today with the signing of the Skokomish River Ecosystem Restoration Project Partnership Agreement.

  • International Kootenay Lake Board of Control to hold public meeting Sept. 19

    The International Kootenay Lake Board of Control will hold a public meeting at the Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Centre in Nelson, British Columbia, at 7 p.m. Sept. 19. The public will be presented information on the International Joint Commission, the Kootenay Board, and the operation of Corra Linn Dam by Fortis BC under the 1938 Order on Kootenay Lake. The Board will take comments from the public regarding their concerns and suggestions on the Board’s activities.

  • Chittenden Locks large chamber limited to half lockages, small lock closed

    The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks large chamber is limited to half lockages because of a power outage. Maintenance crews are working to restore power and lock wall crews are working to get vessels through as efficiently as possible.

  • Chittenden Locks small chamber closed for unscheduled maintenance

    The small lock chamber is closed to marine traffic this week with reopening possible by September 13. All vessels will use the large lock and boaters should be prepared with appropriate equipment and crew.

  • Chittenden Locks to close September 18 and 19

    Both large and small locks will close to all marine traffic eight hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., September 18 to inspect and open a saltwater drain screen structure. The large lock will close again to all marine traffic eight hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., September 19 for sill and pump discharge inspections in preparation for the large lock dewatering outage in October.

  • Army Corps to host Albeni Falls Dam public information meeting Sept. 11

    Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are hosting a public meeting Sept. 11 in Priest River, Idaho, to inform the public on Albeni Falls Dam operations. Topics include: current and upcoming operations, to include the fall draft; lake level coordination; weather forecasts; and a topical question-and-answer period.

    Seattle Parks and Recreation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invite the community to an Open House July 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Alki Community Center to learn about the Emma Schmitz Seawall Replacement project.
