• Army Corps of Engineers repairing Union Slough Levee

    The Union Slough Levee near Everett, Washington, is getting repairs starting the week of September 24 when U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ officials will begin restoring approximately 1,245 feet of damage in four sections in Everett along the Snohomish River. The project will cost approximately $1,100,000.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, will begin repairs the levee totaling 1,200 feet of damage, within Diking District 22, at a cost of about $960,000.
  • Chittenden Locks to close 10 hours September 18, 19

    SEATTLE – The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks will close to all marine traffic 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., September 18 and 19, 2018 for dive operations. These require the Locks be closed to all but emergency vessels on emergency calls.
  • Corps awards $10.5 million contract for Chittenden Locks filling gates, expect extended large chamber closures

    SEATTLE – A contract to replace the original large lock chamber’s 100-year-old filling culvert gates at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard was awarded by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials September 10, 2018. Ferndale, Washington, headquartered IMCO received the contract award for their $10.5 million bid. The project will replace the original valves, called Stoney Gate Valves, designed and originally used during the Panama Canal construction.

    Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are hosting a public meeting Aug. 29 in Priest River, Idaho, to inform the public on Albeni Falls Dam operations. Topics include: current and upcoming operations, to include the fall draft; lake level coordination; weather forecasts; and a topical question-and-answer period.

    Permanent repairs to the Lord Hill Levee on the Snohomish River upstream of the town of Snohomish, Washington, will begin on approximately August 20, 2018. The construction site will be approximately 1.5 miles upstream of the confluence with the Pilchuck River and south of the town of Snohomish.

    Northwest Seaport Alliance and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) signed a feasibility cost-sharing agreement August 21 to initiate a feasibility study of navigation improvements to the Blair and Sitcum waterways at the Port of Tacoma.
